A charity that designs and builds specialist equipment for disabled children has been nominated for a manufacturing award.
Chris Grayling, MP for Epsom and Ewell, has nominated Epsom based charity MERU for their innovative Bugzi – an indoor powered wheelchair for children aged one to six. The Bugzi offers pre-school children with disabilities the chance to experience independent mobility, often for the first time in their lives.
He said: “I am delighted to nominate MERU for this award. At our best, British manufacturers are more than a match for anyone, and it’s good to see such an innovative and worthwhile product developed here in Epsom.”
Some children have disabilities so complex that no available equipment is suitable, however MERU’s design and engineering team are able to produce complex custom made products to suit their needs.
The awards have been organised by the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group in partnerships with the 1851 Royal Commission.
