A sight-impaired drama group will be bringing the magic of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Leatherhead later this year with the help of dedicated volunteers.

Members of SeeAbility, a charity offering specialised residential, community and rehabilitation services for people with visual impairment, are already rehearsing hard.

Volunteer Jane Wasbrough has selected the songs and music for the play and is supporting the cast to learn the tunes and words through Braille. She has also been busy making costumes and props. Drama group co-ordinator Hannah Stuart praised Jane’s enthusiasm and commitment. She said: "Jane and our other wonderful volunteers make such a difference to the lives of people whom SeeAbility supports. The group enjoy their drama sessions but being able to put on a proper production takes their achievements to a different level".

One of the cast, Anne Docwra, who plays the role of Puck, said: "I enjoy singing and if it wasn’t for Jane, we wouldn’t have music for the plays. Jane brings life and music to the group".

The group will be performing at the Fairfield Centre Leatherhead on August 8 and tickets will go on sale nearer the time.

SeeAbility, formerly the Royal School for the Blind, operates services across the south east of England. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, call Katy Reeves on 07850 515397.
