A man remains in a serious condition in hospital after being attacked in a park on Friday night.

Following a public appeal yesterday, Merton police have now identified the man, who was assaulted in Morden Hall Park, Morden Road, on April 13.

After being found without any identification at about 11.15pm, he was taken to a south London hospital with serious head injuries.

His next of kin have been informed.

Police are also keeping an “open mind” with regard to their investigation into what happened to the man and what he was doing before being found.

He is aged approximately in his 50s or 60s, is 5ft 10in with a slim build, and was found wearing a navy blue fleece, blue trousers and brown shoes.

The lead investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Simon Clementson said: "I am keen to hear from anyone who was in or around the Morden Hall Park area between 10.30 and 11pm on Friday night, who may have seen what happened to this man.

"They may have seen his movements before the incident, or even what happened prior to police and London Ambulance Service arriving. Anyone who thinks they can help should call us."

Anyone with information about this man should call the CID at Wimbledon Police station on 020 8649 3154, or to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
