PJF levered themselves into joint first position in the league last weekend with this narrow victory over visitors Sidcup.

Despite leading throughout the game, PJF could not quite shake off their opponents who doggedly hung on to their coat tails.

Campbell-Carson opened PJF's account. Seizing on good, recycled possession in open play, he broke the defence line from 22 metres out and crossed the line.

This was followed by a similar score as fly half Fox kept the scoreboard ticking over. In between, Sidcup fought back with a converted try.

PJF's dominance in the set pieces formed a solid base yet again, almost taking their opponents' ball at will.

This strong scrummaging led to a push over try scored by the impressive number eight Gallagher.

Lorraine and Bourke secured good lineout ball and from one such take the PJF pack drove for the line, allowing Booth to secure another five points for his team.

To give them their due, Sidcup kept the faith and snapped continually at PJF's heels.

Sorrell notched two penalties to keep them at bay during the match and sealed his day's work with a conversion.

Although the match was well balanced and close, PJF felt they should have closed the game out earlier than the final whistle.

But it was a valuable win and underlined the quality of sides in this league that PJF must overcome in order to complete a successful season.

Next week PJF visit Old Elthamians, who are currently third in the League.

l PJF's second X1 lost 7-5 to Sutton and Epsom in their merit table match.

After going 7-0 down in the first 15 minutes, PJF re-aligned their front row and started to secure better possession.

Captain Scarborough scored their only try, but it was not enough to overhall their opponents.
