Warlingham 21
London Exiles 29
Fielding a largely scratch side for this friendly against London Exiles, Warlingham lost 29-21 as they gave several squad players their first game of the season.
After half an hour of equal exchanges, a missed tackle in the midfield let Exiles slip in for a converted try and they scored a second after good lines of running from their powerful back line.
This spurred Warlingham into action and an elusive break by captain and fullback Ben Lucocq ended with Shane Smith darting over for a try converted by scrum half Dave Williams.
Immediately after the break number eight Sam Salter showed his class and barged through the visitors' defence to feed Alex Glover an inch-perfect pass to score under the posts.
A second Williams conversion put the home side ahead for the first time in the game.
Lock forward Dicky Long took several lineout catches against the visitors' throw to set up several forays into the opponents' half.
Exiles then raised their game and three tries in quick succession secured the game for them.
However Warlingham had the last score with winger Smith making good ground only to be stopped inches short of the tryline.
The ensuing ruck saw Chris Cole dart towards the Exiles posts and unselfishly pass on to flanker Mike Wong to score, with Williams adding the extra points.
Warlingham expect to be at full strength for Saturday's London Leagues Four South West clash against top-of-the-league Cobham RFC.
