Hasting Utd 2
Croydon Athletic 1
The tannoy announcer optimistically played Let Me Entertain You' by Robbie Williams as the teams ran out on to the pitch.
Unfortunately the two sides did not get the message, as the Rams exited the FA Trophy in a drab encounter.
The game began in a flat manner, then out of nothing Wade Falana challenged in the air for a high ball won it. He turned and unleashed a fantastic shot from 25 yards past the helpless keeper Lee Worgan.
Hastings came back strongly and James Wastell saved well from Sam Adams three minutes later.
The hosts drew level in the 16th minute when the assistant referee failed to notice the two United players who were a 10 yards offside when the ball was played.
Adams proceeded to set up Marc Whiteman who scored from close range.
The game went flat after this, but United looked the stronger side as they seemed to win every ball in the air.
The second half continued in the same dull manner as the first, with little constructive play.
Then on 54 minutes Jimmy Elford crossed for Whiteman who headed home the winner.
He should have had a hat-trick on 73 minutes when he was set up by Tim Olorunda.
Croydon Athletic: Wastell, Waters, Hewitt, Waite, Gibson, Ward, Lombardo (Simmons), Graham (Moore), Side (Curnow), Falana, Myton
