As we approach that time of year where parents look round prospective secondary schools I had to write about Stanley Park High School. Recently there was a programme about grammar schools which included Wallington County Grammar School.

The father featured in this programme said life would be over if his son did not gain admission.

Our son went to Stanley Park and left at 18 to go onto university where he has just graduated with a 2:1 honours degree and is now a batchelor of science with a very good job at a bank in the City. He has other school mates at university and one of his good friends did a similar course to my son and gained a first.

The teachers at Stanley Park could not have done more to help and encourage my son and his friends. The teachers were always willing to help and encourage, even in their own time.

We cannot thank them enough and my son has been back to tell them of his success and to thank them. He always says he would go back tomorrow if he could as he loved his time at this school.

People always write about the negative, but if you have a child that is willing, Stanley Park would be top of my list.

Our daughter went to Wallington High School for Girls, one academic year above our son, and left with 4 Cs at GCSE - the rest Ds and Es. Our son achieved 10 GCSEs all grade C and above and then 3 A-levels.

So thank you Stanley Park we are very grateful.
