Croydon libraries are holding a competition to find the youngest babies to join the library this month to celebrate National Bookstart Day.
Throughout October, babies and toddlers who join the library will be entered in the competition and prize winners will receive certificates and bumper bags of baby books at a special presentation in November in the central children's library inside the Clocktower in Katharine Street.
Councillor Steve Hollands, cabinet member for culture and sport said: "You are never too young to get into books and Croydon's libraries are well stocked with a wide variety of material for the whole family to enjoy.
"Joining the library at the earliest age is one of the best things a parent can do to give their child an introduction to the fascinating world of books and reading."
