Staines Town are hoping goal-grabbing duo Mark Nwokeji and Ali Chaaban can help them stretch their unbeaten run to five games when they host Slough Town in the Ryman League Premier Division on Tuesday (7.45pm), writes Tony Flood.
The Swans, who are without a game this Saturday as they are out of the FA Cup, were indebted to a brilliant solo effort from the recalled Chaaban for a 1-1 draw at home to Chelmsford City last Saturday.
It was Chaaban's seventh of the season, while Nwokeji leads the way with 10.
Manager Steve Cordery said: "It is pleasing to see Ali and Mark competing to be top scorer. They are key men for us this season.
"But others need to chip in as well."
Lively striker Chaaban outshone former club-mate Fiston Manuella, in the Chelmsford side following his recent transfer, by eluding three challenges to fire Staines ahead after 32 minutes.
But Chelmsford, who also had former Staines player of the year Kezie Ibe on the bench, earned a point with a 53rd-minute equaliser from Ricky Holmes.
Ibe was brought on soon afterwards and looked a major threat every time he received the ball.
Staines: Allaway; Thompson, McDonald, J Newton, Flitter capt, Scarlett (Thomas, 87mins), K Warner, Sargent, Currie (H Newton, 70), Nwokeji, Chaaban. Subs unused: Maskell, Armstrong, James. Att: 332.
Two Staines sides were in action at Staines Lammas FC on Sunday when the vets defeated Thames Ditton 5-2 and the women kick-started their league campaign with an 8-2 win over Dynamo North London. Sam Oliver netted a hat-trick, Jenni Frair scored two, Lucky McNeil and Eddy Koff got one each, while one is still being disputed between Kate Cook and Sharon Heaven!
This Sunday, they visit Brentford in the Middlesex Senior Women's Cup.
Staines/Kingston College Academy fielded two sides last Wednesday.
They beat Sussex Downs 4-0 in the English Colleges' League, with goals by Aston Ventour, Craig Masham, Chris Robinson and Jermaine McGlashan.
Martyn Spong spread his resources thinly, as he had also arranged to play an U19 game away to Godalming College, who won 2-0 in the preliminary round of the Surrey Colleges U19 Cup.
More academy boys were involved in the title-chasing reserves' 2-1 win over Yeading 2-1 in the Capital League, thanks to goals by Craig Masham and Aston Ventour.
