I was sad to read of the sudden death of Andy Harris.
His connection with Wandsworth goes back to the 1980s when he was selected as Labour candidate for the Putney constituency for the then Greater London Council and was elected by a slim majority in May 1981.
His election marked a brief false dawn in what was otherwise a very dark valley for the local Labour Party.
His career since is to his credit and also to that of Wandsworth Council for recognising that a prior political history did not preclude proper professionalism.
