I was interested to read that Croydon Council is extending its kerbside recycling trial (Kerbside collection trial extended, Croydon Guardian September 27).

While this is to be warmly encouraged, I would like to point out that many residents such as myself who live in blocks of flats have no access to any recycling facilities.

I have been trying to highlight this issue for many years. Having written to Croydon Council I was told that I must identify a site' (for recycling bins). This I did but it was rejected as being too near housing'.

More recently a reply from Councillor Tony Newman (then leader) said: "Kerbside recycling facilities are not suitable for flats as there is no kerb."

I was aware of this and so suggested a series of large bins for separate items (glass, newspapers, etc.) My letter was passed to the community recycling officer, who then left the job and no action was ever taken.

I have been told by neighbours who have raised this issue with the council the response was that there was no money in the 2006/7 budget for bins.

This is disgraceful. I notice that on the back page of Your Croydon' magazine the council has given a whole page over to promoting kerbside recycling with no mention of those who live in flats.

I take my newspapers, glass, tins and plastic by bus to Crystal Palace Parade to use the recycling bins provided by Southwark Council.

We have had sympathetic words from local councillors past and present, but no action. When is this situation going to be resolved?
