As a Berrylands resident I welcome the latest recycling proposals by the council. Your recent correspondent who bemoaned Kingston Council's latest initiative to collect rubbish fortnightly in Berrylands needs to ponder these issues more carefully.
If she and others separated from their "real" rubbish every item that could possibly be recycled in this borough then the amount of actual detritus would be reduced.
This would mean less going to landfill and so less expenditure by the council in the payment of landfill taxes.
The other good thing would be more materials including plastics, cans, glass, paper and cardboard being saved to produce goods without the costs of extraction and degradation of the environment causing the pollution which does none of us any good.
I urge everyone to think positively about these issues and take more time to deal with their own unwanted rubbish more thoughtfully.
Equally, I urge Kingston Council to be far more positive about getting the recycling message over - clearly a lot of residents still don't get it.
