I write in response to the letters by Mr Burns and Mr Millwood (October 4) claiming that I am pouring cold water on the Rose Theatre project and being unadventurous.
On the contrary, many of the local taxpayers I have spoken to who are funding the theatre feel that Sir Peter Hall is being short-sighted in what the community would like to see staged in their theatre.
His choice, restricted to performances of Beckett, Greek tragedies and Shakespeare, that he wishes to stage throughout the year are in no way diverse enough to appeal to all family members.
So how can it possibly be a community theatre?
As a matter of interest I would like to hear from residents what their choice would be. Isn't it about time they were consulted? Or, as per usual, doesn't their opinion matter?
