Our search for Kingston's best vet continues this week with our second nomination for Kavit Manro.
Kavit, who works for Henderson Keywood and Partners Veterinary Practice in Surbiton, has been nominated by Katy Williams from Surbiton.
She said: "When we first took our cat Max there, Kavit took great pains to tell us about how cats get nervous in new surroundings.
"He said our cat may cower in his cage, but when he opened the door, Max just bounded out and started exploring the surgery, which the vet managed to take very well. The practice is so friendly."
Kavit, 24, graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London two years ago and began working for Henderson Keywood and Partners, his father's veterinary practice.
"As my father was a vet, I was exposed to the career from an early age. I did work experience at the practice, did my degree and then came back to work there full-time," he said.
The practice, on Claremont Road, specialises in treating small animals.
Kavit said: "Small animal treatment is actually a skilled job. I'm also training for a specialist surgeon's qualification that will allow me to carry out far more complex and dangerous operations."
Kavit is the latest in a long line of vets to work at the Surbiton practice, which claims to be the oldest in the area.
"It started up in the late 1800s with stables and specialising in treatment of horses. Two partners Henderson and Keywood took over in the 1940s and my dad bought the practice 20 years ago," he said.
Such a long history means Kavit's clients often know the practice better than he does.
"Some of our clients have been bringing their animals here for 40 years, and we even have visitors whose grandparents came here too," he said.
At this point Kavit faces stiff competition for the title as Lucy Hancox from A F O'Meara's Practice in Chessington is in the lead but there is still plenty of time to nominate and vote for your favourite vet.
