St Raphael’s Hospice is calling on residents to fly the flag on jubilee weekend by taking part in a charity royal ramble.

The hospice will be celebrating its 25th anniversary with a five-mile sponsored walk on Saturday, June 2, leaving at noon from Wimbledon Rugby and Football Club in Barham Road.

Everyone is welcome to take part but people are being encouraged to get into the spirit by dressing up in their finest royal regalia, flying the red, white and blue or donning a crown for the festivities.

Susannah Forland from St Raphael’s, said: “This is an event for the whole family – mums, dads and children of all ages. Children under 16 must be accompanied.

“We hope everyone will come up with their own patriotic costumes – something fun and eye-catching.”

Based in Cheam, St Raphael’s Hospice has treated patients in Sutton and Merton with life-threatening diseases since 1987.

The service is free of charge and provides medical and nursing skills as well as support to family and friends caring for 900 patients every year.

Every year the charity must raise £3m just to keep the service running and it relies almost entirely on donations and is hoping to raise £50,000 from the event.
