Temperatures could hit 27C today as south London and Surrey welcome the onset of summer.
After a rain-hit couple of months, forecasters are predicting a spell of sunshine stretching into the weekend.
A Met Office forecaster said today would herald some strong sunshine.
He said: "Early mist and low cloud soon clearing giving another predominantly dry, warm and sunny day.
"Mist may persist close to the east Kent coast until later where it will be cooler."
He said temperatures could hit 27C.
Meanwhile, some isolated showers could hit the west of the region this evening, with mist and low cloud returning.
However, Thursday looks set to bring more sunshine, despite the risk of showers in the afternoon, with temperatures set to hit 28C.
The forecaster added: "Low cloud and mist quickly clearing then very warm and sunny. Most places staying dry but a few heavy showers may break out during the afternoon."
