Wandsworth archer John Cavanagh may be a Paralympic veteran but he believes the London Games this summer will top all other experiences.

The 55-year-old was named in ParalympicsGB’s team for the Games last week having previously competed in Sydney, Athens and Beijing – winning gold in 2004 and silver in 2008 in the men’s W1 individual compound event.

Despite the excitement of the past three Paralympics though, he admitted competing in his home city will be the pinnacle.

“I am delighted to be taking part in the London 2012 Paralympic Games,” he said.

“It’s my home city and I will have family and friends there to support me, which makes it even more special.

“This will be my fourth Games, and being part of the team in Sydney, Athens and Beijing was very special.

“But, to be competing in London this year, makes it even more special for me.

Thirteen archers were named in the GB team on Friday and head coach Tim Hazell believes they could form their strongest squad yet.

“We have a very strong squad of 13 international class archers who all came through a very tough selection process,” he said “I am extremely confident of our prospects at the Games.”

“It is a reflection of all the hard work that these athletes have put in over the past four years that we are in a position to announce such a large archery team for London,” added ParalympicsGB Chef de Mission Craig Hunter.

“I am confident all these athletes will make Britain proud.”
