A Croydon butcher found guilty of selling short measures and providing false details to trading standards officers has been prosecuted by Croydon Magistrates.
Hewa Hassan Margaye, who runs Halal Meat Centre in London Road, was found guilty of failing to provide information to a trading standards officer and failing to display details of the ownership of the business at Croydon Magistrates' Court. He had previously pleaded guilty to three pricing offences.
The court heard that in September last year following a complaint from a consumer, trading standards staff carried out three bulk test purchases of chicken legs.
The chicken legs were being priced at £4.99 for 10lbs. On each occasion they asked for 10lbs but only received 8.1lbs, 8.4lbs and 8.7lbs.
