I am completely in support of the campaign to reduce speeds on the Dalebury road.
The sad death of the little girl who was hit by a car has highlighted a serious safety concern and it is right that something should be done about it.
But I think also it is terrible that it takes an event like this for the council to wake up to a problem which could have been foreseen. The high speeds at which cars travel on residential roads has long been an issue for residents in the borough and a major investigation into particular danger spots should have been undertaken long ago.
This issue is in no way restricted to this one road so I hope the council will finally commission a major investigation into which roads in the borough would benefit from speed restriction measures.
This would not only make these areas more safe for the families who live in them but would also encourage motorists to drive more responsibly around London.
And perhaps this would also set a precedent for the council to use their foresight to address and eliminate other accidents waiting to happen in the borough.
