I had to write in response to your invitation to say what we felt about the proposal to have a railway station at Eastfields.

For Mitcham as a town, this can only be a good thing. Mitcham, as we all know, is in decline.

I know there is a possibility of Asda coming to Mitcham and this will bring a big boost to the town. Having a railway so close to the town centre will be a massive boost. It will make the town so much more accessible to many people and will encourage new businesses into the town and bring more people to the town on a daily basis.

For the residents of Mitcham, a station at Eastfields will be brilliant. It will make London more accessible for many people. It will give Mitcham residents a more realistic opportunity of working in London.

For me and my family, a station so local would be fantastic. We occasionally like to have day trips in London but at the moment we have to get either a bus to Streatham Common or Morden (and then use the underground).

This is an inconvenience and puts us off of going into London.

My children are aged 13 and 15 and are likely to want to venture into London more as they get older. They also may have the possibility of working in London when they finish their education.

They both go to local schools (Harris Academy and St Marks Academy) and hopefully these schools would benefit greatly from having a local rail link.

Mitcham town centre needs a boost soon, before it becomes a ghost town.

The proposed station at Eastfields could be just the boost that Mitcham needs.

I really hope that it goes ahead.
