Tooting & Mitcham finally ended their league goal drought in an impressive win over second-placed Dartford at Imperial Fields on Tuesday night.

The Terrors had gone five Ryman League Division One South matches without finding the net, but midfielder Vernon Francis showed the strikers how to do it by scoring twice as Billy Smith's men came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory.

Tooting gave home debuts to two new signings on Tuesday - striker Carl Gibbs, who was brought in from Sutton United, and 23-year-old former Bromley defender Joe Vines, brother of Terrors striker Paul Vines.

Assistant manager George Wakeling was delighted with the reshuffled team.

"It was the first time we have played for the entire 90 minutes," he said.

"Joe and Carl both played ever so well - it was the strongest side we have put out this season."

Gibbs, 26, was unable to make an instant impression in his first Terrors outing at Molesey last Saturday, as a frustrated Smith saw his team slip to a 2-0 defeat.

"It was the same old story," said Smith.

"We played some good stuff but wasted chances and when Molesey scored it knocked the stuffing out of us."

While Tooting have found league goals hard to come by, it is a different story in the cups, in which they have scored 28 times in eight cup ties - including last week's amazing 7-6 extra-time victory against Dulwich Hamlet in the FA Trophy.

Their reward is a tough-looking trip to Ryman Premier side Boreham Wood in the first qualifying round this Saturday.
