Officers from Southern are battling to evict travellers who have occupied a station car park.
Commuters were faced with wall-to-wall caravans when they arrived at Purley Oaks station on Monday morning.
Officers from Croydon Council and Southern have visited the site and are negotiating with the travellers to leave today, Wednesday, July 11.
A spokesman from Croydon Council said: “The travellers are illegally camped on Southern land and they will be subject to eviction. We have been in contact with Southern but it is their responsibility.
“With regards to preparing for where they may go next, there are no arrangements with travellers as such as they are free to choose their own movements and we can’t dictate where they go. We do put in preventive measures in respect of some of our parks in the form of gates, bund walls and other types of barriers.”
