Fire crews fought for just under two hours to prevent a suspected arson attack at a youth centre.
Crews from New Addington and Woodside were called to the fire at Timebridge Community Centre, Fieldway at 8.43pm after the wooden structure on the centre roof containing water butts caught on fire.
Using hose reels and breathing apparatus the three crews were able to contain the blaze and prevent it spreading to the main building, though the wooden container, which was about five metres by three metres was completely destroyed.
The fire was under control by 10.30pm A fire fighter from New Addington confirmed the cause of the fire was believed to be deliberate but was under investigation.
