Rowing gold medallist James Cracknell will be the first Olympic torch bearer as the flames begins its journey through Kingston next week.
The former Kingston Grammar School pupil is one of 982 torchbearers across the country, including Daley Thompson, Tim Henman and Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films.
He will carry the torch at the beginning of the Kingston borough leg on Tuesday, July 24, starting from the Hook Centre, Hook, at about 8.20am.
Only three of the 26 torchbearers are from Kingston, the Surrey Comet reported last week.
Surbiton resident, pensioner and women’s cycling pioneer Eileen Gray, 92, is joined by Tolworth Girl’s School pupil Sophia Roberts, from Malden Rushett, and Kingston-based Great Britain hockey player Josie Inverdale, daughter of BBC presenter John Inverdale.
