The sale of Walton and East Molesey police stations has moved closer to completion after Surrey Police Authority accepted bids for both properties.
The bids were discussed in private on July 12, because of commercial sensitivities, and both were accepted after discussion.
A spokesman for the authority said: “From the outset of the Operational Policing Review, the authority and force have been clear that no station would be sold until an alternative provision for neighbourhood teams was in place.”
In Walton, an alternative police post is proposed within a community hub planned in the former library building, which is due to open in 2013.
Plans are also under way to establish a police post in the St John’s area of Walton, in Elmbridge Housing Trust-owned property.
Walton police station will remain in use until the alternative provision is operational.
In Molesey, a new police post is already operational within Environment Agency premises at Molesey Lock.
