Sutton Martial Arts Academy is celebrating after winning gold, silver and bronze in Greece.

Angela Hebden is the chief instructor at Sutton Martial Arts Academy and the national coach and president of Team Great Britain for the World Pan Amateur Kickboxing Association (WPKA).

WPKA has just arrived back from Thessaloniki, Greece, from the world championships where over 40 countries participated from July 2-8.

The academy now has its first world champion in 14-year-old Lucy Hart from Sutton who has been training in the sport for only 10 months.

Sutton youngsters won a range of medals in their weight categories including Aiden Barton, 11, who took silver and Hannah Allen, 9, who won silver and bronze medals.

Rachel Higgins, 13, from Cobham won two gold medals and Teresa Tomassi from Banstead won two bronze medals.

Miss Hebden said: “I took 17 fighters over there was lots of support from the parents.

“A big well done Tracey Armstrong and Darton Bell – they also participated and showed great improvement and team spirit.” She said a big thank you to their sponsors Epsom Skin Clinics.

Miss Hebden, from Epsom, who is a British, European and world champion, also won gold in her section.

She started her martial arts career at the age of 16 training in Ju-Jitsu, Spirit Combat and Kickboxing.

At the Sutton Sports Awards on Thursday, July 12 she was awarded sports coach of the year, sports personality of the year and was runner up for club of the year.
