There is something fishy going on in Walton as the disappearance of a 20ft fish sculpture continues to baffle residents.
The fish used to be sited in front of Campbell and Booker, which became Beales before the Heart development saw the store’s demolition.
It first caused controversy in 1965 when it was placed there without planning permission and residents were left racking their brains over its symbolism.
The sculpture prompted mixed reactions - some thought it hideous while others loved it.
However, the question now is where has it gone?
Councillor Christine Elmer posted on walton-on-thames.org: “The last sighting was of is in one of the units that are now restaurants along New Zealand Avenue as the redevelopment started.
“Elmbridge Council has contacted the Heart direct and it has no record of it and neither do any of the restaurants or contractors.
“The feeling is that it was either taken by someone as a souvenir - there had never been official council permission for it to be erected - or it was taken as scrap.”
Can you solve the mystery of the missing sculpture?
