Four years of aggro from youths has finally prompted frustrated residents into petitioning for CCTV in their roads.

People living in Westdean Close, Marcus Terrace and Malva Close, in Wandsworth, are fed up with the youngsters wreaking havoc outside their homes.

The youngsters, many of whom are believed to be South Thames College students, urinate up walls, threaten residents and get into fights.

Problems reached a climax earlier this month when a man was smacked in the face with a bottle in broad daylight and a man was arrested in Westdean Close.

During the attack an elderly neighbour who needs walking aids was knocked over as he was getting out of his car.

Last month two 19-year-old men were found with stab wounds around the corner in Malva Close.

There have also been a number of break-ins, with doors kicked in and stolen motor bikes left dumped on doorsteps.

Neighbours from all three streets handed a petition to Wandsworth Council last week in a bid to get CCTV installed.

Verity Verster, 30, a housewife, said: "I would have been leaving the house to pick up my son from school, and would have been in the middle of the attack but he was off sick that day.

"The residents are being verbally assaulted, they ask tenants if they can come in. One resident was attacked by a girl because she asked if she could come in.

"The council says these things take time, well we don't have any more time."

A spokesperson for South Thames College said: "The college does not know whether our students were or were not involved.

"We are co-operating with the police and reviewing CCTV. The college has a good relationship with the police, and a good track record in helping students stay on track."

Wandsworth Police confirmed they made an arrest for affray on July 9 and investigations are continuing.
