The erratic weather will not stop a horticultural show taking place in Cheam this September.
With increases in slugs and snails and the apples three weeks behind schedule Cheam and Cuddington Horticultural Society is optimistic they will still get a bumper crop in time for the autumn show.
Neil Blumsom from the society said: "Every year the English climate gives gardeners a fresh set of challenges to cope with.
“This year it was a winter drought and exceptionally heavy summer rains.
“I am hopeful that so long as we have a hot sunny August our fruit trees will recover."
At the Cheam and Cuddington Horticultural Society's Summer Show on July 14, six-year-old, Brandon Kilkenny, won third place for growing a sunflower taller than himself.
His sunflower was so tall his father had to hold him up to get picture of both him and the sunflower's head.
The autumn show will take place on at 2pm on September 8 at St Dunstan’s Primary School, Anne Boleyn’s Walk, Cheam.
