A man was hit by an Olympic shuttle bus hours after the torch relay had passed through the borough.
The 33-year-old man was left in a serious but stable condition after being hit by the bus on Carshalton High Street just before 11pm on Monday, July 23.
The bus, owned by Metrobus, is being used throughout the Olympics to transport staff and was on its way to begin its next shift.
The man sustained a head injury and was taken to hospital by ambulance.
An eye witness reported seeing the man step out from behind a van and said: "He hit the front of the bus and went flying up the road.
"His face was pouring with blood and he wasn’t really moving."
The incident happened near the traffic lights next to Westcroft Road. Staff from the Fox and Hounds pub on Carshalton High Street called an ambulance and came out to see if they could help.
A spokesperson from the London Ambulance Service said they were called shortly after 11pm.
Their staff treated the man who had head injuries and a lower level of consciousness.
He was taken to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, by ambulance and his condition was steadily improving on Tuesday.
The Metropolitan Police and the London Fire Brigade also attended the scene. The driver, who was the only person on board, stopped at the scene.
A spokesperson from Metrobus said: "A Metrobus vehicle that was running out of service was involved in an accident with a pedestrian on Carshalton High Street at approximately 2300 on 23rd July. We are helping with police with their investigation."
