Local Link: Emma was born in Wandsworth but grew up in Norwich.
Career Best: 2008 brought success for Pooley, starting off with her win in the Trofeo Alfredo Binda UCI Road World Cup event in Italy.
Career High: Emma competed in the Road Race at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and played a key role in helping Nicole Cooke take gold. She went on to win silver in the Olympic women’s time trial event.
Sporting Background: A former cross-country runner, Pooley switched to cycling after an injury prevented her running.
She Says: "I've had to improve a lot and I know I'm a lot better than I was four years ago but it doesn't necessarily mean I'll do better or even get a medal. I'm not saying I'm confident, but I've got a good shot. As long as the pressure of a home Olympics doesn't get to me."
We Say: "Emma has been training hard, even taking part in the Giro d'Italia, so there is no reason why she cannot go one better with home support to roar her across the line."
