A New Malden family were left disappointed after they were told the wrong location to watch their family member carry the Olympic torch.
Alan Lane, 78, carried the Olympic torch in Lewisham on Monday and his family members were told he would be running along the route at approximately 8:38am.
His wife, Joan, 82, originally feared she would not see Alan run because she cannot travel on public transport.
Mrs Lane travelled to Lewisham in a car to watch her husband carry the torch at the location she was told.
Displaying a banner, the family waited for the relay to reach them before realising Mr Lane had already run.
Mrs Lane said: "We were a bit upset because we had gone a long way."
"It all went well from his point of view. He ran and did his bit. He seemed very upbeat afterwards."
Mr Lane was selected as a torchbearer because of his involvement with scouts for 50 years and Arthritis Care for 20 years.
