Elmbridge Council has been awarded customer service excellence accreditation for delivering excellent customer service.
The award is only granted to organisations that can meet at least 80 per cent of the standard.
Elmbridge achieved 100 per cent compliance in all 57 elements of the inspection, putting them at the top of the local authority sector.
External assessors SGS looked at how well the council understood customers needs, the accuracy of information, and how the council delivered the service as well as its quality and timeliness.
SGS also recognised 10 areas of practice that were exceptional - including the services' concern for value for money and the encouragement and support given to the voluntary sector.
Leader of the council Councillor John O’Reilly said: “This is a real testament to the commitment to customer service by our staff, partners, volunteers and senior management.”
Elmbridge’s chief executive said: “We are always looking at ways to improve and this award shows that we are on the right track.”
