Australia has stolen a march on its rivals on the eve of the Olympics after 3,000 natives gathered on Clapham Common to break a Guinness World Record.

The antipodeans, wearing their homeland's traditional green and gold, massed at The Windmill Pub last night (July 26) to try to beat the exisiting record for Most People Wearing the Same Full Team Kit.

To qualify for the world record, participants had to be kitted out in exactly the same outfit (t-shirt, shorts and socks) and had to hold the pose for ten minutes.

The previous record, which was held by Switzerland, stood at 537 - but last night's attempt smashed the old although a number of cheeky ex-pats were disqualified for not wearing full kit.

But having composed themsleves and organised themselves into a giant G-Day shape for the required ten minutes, the official new world record is 935.

One participant Tony Bellows said: "It's funny because I thought I'd broken anpother record yesterday when I had to queue four hours to pick up my Olympics tickets.

"At least this time we have broken an official record, hopefully we'll break a few more in the next couple of weeks."
