Three-time Olympian Karina Bryant, one of the most decorated British judoka in history, is eyeing an elusive Olympic medal in her fourth Games appearance in London.
Team GB’s judo team have won 16 Olympic medals - seven silver and nine bronze - but have never won a gold and you have to go back to Sydney 2000 for their last Olympic medal, a silver courtesy of Kate Howey.
The team were granted a full 14-strong home quota for London 2012 which will see one Briton compete in each of the 14 weight categories during the first week of the Games.
Long-time standout Tolworth-born Bryant, 33, is a four-time European champion and seven-time world medallist in the women’s +78kg category.
“I’ve seen a lot of tape on a lot of heavyweight fighters and Algerian Sonia Asselah is someone I haven’t come up against before,” said Bryant, who competes on Friday, August 3.
“I feel good, the draw could have been better and could have been worse, and everybody is ready to fight now.
"I’m sure the other fighters are more concerned about me than I am of them but we’ll see what happens.”
