An 80-year-old woman is in a serious condition in hospital after being hit by a car yesterday.
The incident happened at 7.30am in Carshalton Road, Banstead when a blue Daewoo Matiz car collided with the pensioner.
The woman, who lives locally, suffered head, neck and hip injuries and was taken by ambulance to St George’s Hospital in Tooting where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
The driver of the car was not injured.
Police closed Carshalton Road at the junctions with the A2022 Croydon Lane and B278 Rectory Lane for three hours while officers examined the scene and the car was recovered.
