There are certain events in life that help remind you of big occasions - 2011 and 2012 have been eventful indeed.
I remember the weekend of the royal wedding – Michael was away in Liverpool on a stag do while I was home alone.
We had recently found out we were expecting so I spent the two days eating cheese sandwiches on white accompanied with ready salted crisps (crushed inside may I add) – the only meal that kept the nausea away.
It was a milestone that reflected a new era for the monarchy, but more importantly a new chapter for me.
Then, at the end of 2011, the day after Christmas, my son arrived – the icing to top off a great year.
In 2012 we have had the Euros, Queen’s jubilee and now we say hello to the Olympics. Finally, it has arrived and the anticipation is electric (a bit like giving birth, but with a little less pain).
I am so excited and it has been made even better because my son is able to share the experience.
OK, so he may not remember it, but he can look back at the pictures when he is older and get excited then (hopefully).
So on the 24th, when the Olympic torch came to town, we had to get involved.
We walked down to Richmond Road with hundreds of others to catch a glimpse of the iconic flame that probably won’t grace our shores again for a long time.
Elijah was mesmerised by it all.
He had a good look at the fire engines as we stood outside the station and wondered where all these people had come from.
The atmosphere was amazing and it was wonderful to see a community come together.
It is a patriotic time and when my little boy grows up I can tell him about all these great occasions and that he was part of it all.
Good luck Team GB!
