As the heat wave continues West Norward firefighters issued a warning about fire dangers during the summer.
With the good weather come risks such as barbeques going out of control, cigarettes sparking fires in dry grass and candles setting alight curtains by open windows.
Firefighter Terry Matthews urged people to be more careful and bear in mind these dangers while making the most of the sunshine.
Mr Matthews said: "Enjoy the summer but be more vigilant. Have fun but take care."
He said people should make sure barbeques are in good condition, placed in safe areas and out of the way of playing children.
He said: "Make sure it is not under bushes and don’t leave it unattended."
In hot weather grass cuttings and leaves become drier and are more likely to catch fire so cigarettes should be disposed of safely and never thrown out of car windows, he said.
People may keep windows open at night to cope with the heat therefore they should be wary of candles, he added.
He said: "Now the windows are open they have to bear in mind that if there is the slightest breeze it could push the curtains into the candle.”
Mr Matthews said there tended to be more fires outside in the summer but less indoors compared to the winter.
He said: "It’s a mix. You can’t predict a fire. Each season has its own risks."
Mr Matthews added whatever the time of year it was important to have a fire alarm and prevent fire hazards at home.
The West Norwood firefighters go out to people’s houses to offer fire safety advice and fit free smoke alarms.
