TWO of the area's weightlifting hopefuls have admitted they're already looking ahead to the Commonwealth and next Olympic Games at a Team GB press conference this afternoon.
Bexleyheath's Jack Oliver said thinking ahead is inevitable, and believes all five of his team have the potential to medal in Rio.
He said: “I am obviously thinking forward. At the minute and for the last year or so my focus has been on London. I changed my university course so that I was attending part-time, to focus on training, so everything really has led to this moment.
“But we are all still thinking about the future. All of us have good medal potential for Glasgow 2014, and then Rio 2016. So of course it is something we’re thinking about but at the moment we are focused on now and producing personal bests on the stage here.”
Commonwealth bronze medallist Zoe Smith, from Abbey Wood, who takes to the stage on Monday, also said she would be hoping to medal in both Glasgow and Rio.
Smith, who finished fourth at the European Championships in April, said: “I am massively looking forward to Rio 2016, by then I really should have a chance of pushing for a medal and definitely in Glasgow 2014.
“I think I can use London as a great opportunity to showcase what I can do to my home city and use it as experience looking ahead to future."
