An African village football team have received their first ever kit after schoolchildren collected hundreds of CDs and DVDs.
Hall School Wimbledon in Stroud Crescent collected 400 CDs and DVDs as part of an initiative organised by the Asociación Española de Ecoturismo Activo Campamentos Solidarios - a Spanish non-profit association that has been working in Senegal since 2001 - and UK based musicMagpie’s Freekits initiative.
Individually numbered kits, including shorts and socks were then donated to the Senegal team, Equipe de Eloubaline, by musicMagpie with pupil Lucas Heappey, 12, delivering the kits in person.
Mr Hobbs, head teacher at Hall School Wimbledon, said: "We were delighted that Lucas gave us this opportunity to find out more about Senegal and that our children could raise money for a project that meant so much to them.
"Lucas delivered several powerful talks in school assemblies and it is no surprise he managed to do so well."
Anne Markland from a Spanish Association of Eco Tourism said: "Equipe de Eloubaline had got through to their league final last year but didn't have a kit so they were over the moon - believe me, this football kit from musicMagpie will be the most protected and cared for thing in the whole village."
Team GB and Senegal drew in their first Olympic match on Thursday, July 26.
