Sutton Council leader Ruth Dombey visited Westcroft Leisure Centre to see how the multi-million pound revamp of the sports facilities was taking shape.
The new centre in Carshalton will include an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a gym, a library and a crèche when it opens early next year.
Coun Dombey said: “Looking at the building as it takes shape really drives home what a major revamp this is.
"It’s a big undertaking, but the new Westcroft will be a community hub that everyone in the local area can enjoy."
