Homelessness in Elmbridge has doubled in the past year.
Figures released by SSentif showed the number of households accepted as priority homeless in Elmbridge in 2011-12 was 16, compared with ight in 2010-11.
Dominic Raab, MP for Walton and Esher, said: “Elmbridge may be reasonably well of, but it is a myth that we live in a land of milk and honey.
“The rise in homelessness in three years, from two people to 16, is an indication of that.
“It strengthens the case for ensuring a fairer funding formula from central government for parts of the south-east that contribute an enormous amount in taxation, but see too little of it back for public services and social support."
