Tuesday's Westview League Cup tie against Worthing descended into farce after 63 minutes where the Ryman Division One South side had taken a deserved one goal lead over their Premier Division opponents.

When linesman, Wayne Ingram's contact lense became detached and slid round to the back of his eye, he had no option but to retire.

The Leatherhead replacement was a suitably qualified John Syrett but the Rebel's manager, Danny Bloor was having none of it.

The winless Worthing had suffered a five-minute tirade from Bloor which extended to the officials at half-time.

This disgraceful coduct which will not have reflected well on his club at all.

Dave Harlow had rested six of his squad and gave the new starting pair of Jamie Read and Julian Thompson a chance to impress.

On the night, Worthing offered nothing to suggest anything other than relegation and when the powerful Thompson shook off two defenders to score with a low shot, it was nothing more than the home side deserved having camped in the Sussex side's half for most of the game.

On the positive side, no one was injured and it was a useful warm up for Saturday's FA Cup clash at Sudbury but all at the game - from both clubs - will be left with a bitter taste in their mouth after this shameful performance from a man who should have been setting an example to his players.

The matter is now in the hands of the league committee but the Tanners will be adding another fixture to a long list of re-arrangements that will have to be played over the coming months.
