A street cleaner who did Question of Sport host Sue Barker a favour got the chance to hold an Olympic torch.
The BBC presenter got chatting to Sutton street cleaner Mick Englefield last week, who was working with his team making sure that the area around the Life Centre was looking its best.
As the former tennis star was about to leave, she asked if Mick could spare a couple of plastic bags and, ever the gentleman, he obliged – and was rewarded for his trouble by being allowed to hold one of the relay's iconic torches.
Mick, 51, who has worked for the borough for three years, said: "I told her that I always watch A Question of Sport. And she was even lovelier in real life than she looks on the telly.
"Being allowed to hold the torch made my day."
His boss Mick Carter, street operations manager, said: "Mick and the whole team worked really hard on the day, but it was a privilege to play our part in a historic day for the borough.
And Deputy Leader of the Council Colin Hall added: "Our staff always go the extra mile. I'm sure the service Sue received was the best since she retired from professional tennis."
