Aspiring young Olympians will be able to show off their sporting talents next week at a one off local games event.
The sports day will take place on August 11 in West Norwood and will see budding Usain Bolt’s and Jessica Ennis’s compete in traditional Olympic style events including sprint races and long jumps, hoping to catch one of the winning certificates, medals, and prizes.
Non-sporting visitors can pass their time listening to music or indulging in the BBQ provided and children can also enjoy fancy dress, bouncy castles and free face painting.
Mary Hannigan, chairwoman of the Woodvale estate TRA said: “With the Olympics, Wimbledon and Euro 2012 taking place this summer, we thought it would be good if we could hold a summer sports fest of our own. We plan to put on a fun event that will be remembered for years to come”.
The Woodvale estate’s tenants and residents association was awarded £500 to stage an Olympic themed fun filled day for all by the Lambeth Community Fund and London Community Foundation.
Keith Hill, Lambeth Living chair said; “Lambeth Living is about supporting communities as well as providing decent homes, so I’m delighted that Lambeth Living staff working with the Woodvale TRA submitted a successful funding application. I look forward to cheering on our mini Olympians”.
The event takes place between noon and 5pm at the Woodvale Estate, Elder Road, West Norwood.
