The landlord of a pub and children’s centre has said there is light at the end of the tunnel after having to endure months of speculation over its future.

Oz Bayldon, landlord of the White Lion pub, met with Streatham MP Chuka Umanna and a host of local businessman at Parliament to discuss ideas on getting more business to the area.

Mr Bayldon said it was a good chance to talk about how to bring more shoppers to Streatham and beating off nearby boroughs.

The 40-year-old also said he is still in the hat for funding from the Mayor’s office, which he hopes will be sorted in the next couple of weeks.

If the funding comes through, it will mean news studios can be fitted at the pub which is also a music venue and a children’s centre for his charity Music4Charity.

Mr Bayldon has said renovating the pub has been a burden- both financially and mentally- on him and his family but is determined to see the project through.

He said: “Fingers crossed we get the funding. The idea is to expand the three workshops we have out back for the kids.

“And then build a recording studio and a proper radio station downstairs as our current one is temporary.

"We also want to install a community TV station.

“We want to have at least 20 kids being able to use the facilities.

"The aim is to have a band playing upstairs and the kids running a live feed etc.

"We see ourselves a community hub now. We are one of the first of its kind.

He said: “The aim is to get big acts to come and do a secret gig so the kids can put it out live on radio.

"If artists can see we are educating kids through their music I am sure they will get involved.

“It has been very tough to get it done. Tough on me and on the family as we don’t make a great deal of cash from the pub so financially it is crippling us.

”But I could not be prouder of anything else and I have had some of the biggest award winning venues in London.

"I am more proud of this than I am of anything else.”
