Wimbledon’s Laura Robson has thanked Olympic men’s singles champion Andy Murray for the best week of her life.
Robson narrowly missed out on a gold medal after a narrow 6-2 3-6 (8-10) mixed doubles final defeat to number one seeds Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka on centre court on Sunday.
It could have been a double tennis gold for Team GB after Robson's partner Murray secured the men's singles title with a 6-2 6-1 6-4 triumph over world number one Roger Federer moments earlier in SW19.
But Robson was delighted to collect a silver medal, even though it was tinged with disappointment.
“We came so close so I’m just a bit disappointed really,” said 18-year-old Robson.
“It has been a really good week. At the start of the week I was only supposed to be playing the women’s doubles. So to finish it a silver medallist is pretty cool.
“It is always good to be playing with an Olympic gold medallist.
“I’ve learnt I like playing on big centre courts with crowds like that. The crowds have been amazing all week.
“I played well and I thanked Andy for the best week of my life.”
