A Weybridge project manager is taking on the Three Peaks Challenge in September in aid of three separate charities.


Paul Goodge, who works at Thales’s UK Weybridge headquarters, aims to raise £1,000 for each charity by tackling Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon in under 24 hours.


He is fundraising for Macmillan, the British Heart Foundation and Ty Hafan – a group of palliative specialists that provide support to life-limited children.


Mr Goodge said: “The three charities mean a lot to me, so all support will be most welcome.”


Mr Goodge will kick off the marathon task on Saturday, September 15, at Ben Nevis with an aim to reach the summit within five hours.


Ben Nevis is 1,344 metres above sea level, so Paul will require various survival essentials and thermal clothing to ensure his safety and wellbeing on the climb.


Mr Goodge will then descend and head straight for Scafell Pike, which is about a 248 mile drive away in the Lake District.


He expects to finish that 978 metre ascent within four and a half hours, before driving another 212 miles to arrive at Snowdon at about 3am on September 16.


Snowdon will be the final hurdle for Mr Goodge, with a 1,085 metre climb which should again take him about four hours to complete.


To date, Mr Goodge has raised £1,631 towards his overall target of £3,000.
Mr Goodge said: “Once I’ve finished I know it will have been fun: it’s just the 24 hours prior to that. I’m treating it as a project of course, with Kendal mint cake as my main risk mitigation.”
