A man has been arrested following a spate of arson attacks which have plagued a group of neighbours.

He was arrested after vans, motorbikes and bins were set on fire in Fairchild Close, Battersea, in attacks stretching back to 2011.

The road has experienced no further arson attacks, since the police launching a witness appeal last month and stepped up foot patrols.

A spokesperson for the police said foot patrolling is continuing, and investigations are still taking place.

Residents are finding further relief after Wandle Housing Association (WHA) sorted out damage caused by the fires, which had been un-repaired since last year.

Lights have been fixed in car ports, as well as two more security lights being added.

Temporary CCTV has also been installed in the road.

A meeting also took place with WHA, where recommendations were made to design out crime in the close.

Henry Gomm, 34, an office manager, said: "The police visited us to detail what they had done which included a witness appeal, the installation of a temporary CCTV camera and stepping up foot patrols. 

"We were really pleased to have this meeting and everyone was really positive afterwards that the police were doing all they could to deal with this."
