Andy Turner qualified easily for the semi-finals following a dramatic 110m hurdles heat this morning, finishing first.
The Sutton athlete, running in lane seven, was up against some tough opposition.
But in a race that saw three early fallers including China's Liu Xiang, Turner won in a time of 13.42secs.
As he ran away from the finish line he saluted the crowd who whooped their approval.
Feeling confident after the race, Andy said: "That felt relatively easy to be honest. I felt absolutely petrified."
"Now I have that out of the way I feel I can really get my legs turning over. I think there is more to come."
"I've got to run a lot quicker than that in the final. I'm really looking forward to it."
Andy will next race in the semi-finals tomorrow at 7.15pm.
